Spray foam starts as a liquid that is sprayed on and then expands to provide a layer of insulation. It has been the centre of a media storm over the last few years, because of pushy sales tactics, poor installation, and warranties that turn out to be worth very little.

Why is it a big problem?

Closed-cell spray foam applied directly to the underside of roof timbers can trap moisture against the wood rather than letting it escape, leading to hidden timber decay that is not visible until the foam is removed. That is exactly what our own inspections have found in some roofs.
